National Geographic Border Wars Series

New Series Premiere's Focusing On Protecting The Border

The CBP Border Patrol Academy is recognized as having one of the most challenging curriculums in federal law enforcement. All newly hired Border Patrol Agents receive their basic law enforcement skills by attending the Academy. Each Border Patrol Agent trainee must complete a 19-week resident course of instruction in integrated law, physical training, firearms instruction, driving and Spanish. Border Patrol trainees must maintain a passing score in all courses of instruction in order to be retained.

The National Geographic Channel will premiere the new series "Border Wars" on Sunday January 10 at 9 p.m. Eastern and Pacific time. The series will then move to its regular night and time of Mondays at 9 p.m.

The National Geographic Channel went "on duty" with CBP officers and agents in Nogales, Ariz. as they raced to save illegal immigrants from possible death in desert heat, uncovered a smuggling strategy involving children and found a record-setting cache of narcotics. Ride-along with CBP personnel in the air, on the ground and at the ports of entry as they patrol the southwest border fighting terrorism and intercepting illegal entrants.

Here's the way National Geographic Channel portrays the backdrop of the show: "Every day thousands of men, women and children attempt to enter the United States illegally -- some looking for work, some seeking a new life and others trying to smuggle drugs or other contraband. Many will do whatever it takes, often risking their lives by crossing Arizona's treacherous Sonoran Desert. Now, follow the officers and agents of U.S. Customs and Border Protection as they scour the inhospitable landscape at one of the busiest border crossings in the country, seeking to fight terrorism and intercept illegal entrants from the air, on the ground and at the port of entry."

More information about the series and viewing schedules may be found at the National Geographic Channel's Web site.
